Round Lengths by Sport

Professional boxing uses 3-minute rounds with 1-minute rest. Championship bouts are 12 rounds; non-title fights are typically 8-10 rounds. Amateur boxing uses 3 rounds of 3 minutes. MMA uses 3 rounds of 5 minutes for regular fights and 5 rounds of 5 minutes for title fights and main events. Muay Thai uses 5 rounds of 3 minutes. Kickboxing varies: full-contact uses 3-minute rounds, semi-contact uses 2-minute rounds.

The 10-second warning clap (or bell) alerts fighters that the round is about to end. In training, this cue helps you practice finishing combinations and creating distance before the bell — the same timing instinct you need in competition.
