Understanding Slope
Slope measures the steepness and direction of a line: m = (y₂-y₁)/(x₂-x₁), or "rise over run." A positive slope means the line goes up from left to right. A negative slope goes down. A slope of 0 is a horizontal line. An undefined slope (division by zero) is a vertical line.
The slope-intercept form y = mx + b gives you the full equation of the line. m is the slope, b is the y-intercept (where the line crosses the y-axis). Once you have this equation, you can find y for any x value by plugging in.
