Wedding Seating Layout Guide

60-inch round tables seating 8 guests are the most common wedding table. They promote conversation (everyone can see and hear each other), fit standard linens, and leave comfortable elbow room. 72-inch rounds seat 10 but feel slightly crowded and make cross-table conversation difficult. Rectangular tables create a more formal, dinner-party feel and work well for smaller weddings.

Allow 20-25 square feet per guest for comfortable seating with chair space and server access. A 120-guest reception needs approximately 2,400-3,000 square feet for seating alone. Add 15-20% for the dance floor (300-600 sq ft), bar area, DJ/band, cake table, and circulation paths. Total room requirement: 3,500-4,500 square feet for 120 guests.
