Net Worth

Total assets minus total liabilities — the single best measure of financial health.

Net worth captures everything in one number: savings, investments, home equity, and possessions on the asset side; mortgage, student loans, car loans, and credit card debt on the liability side. A positive and growing net worth means you are building wealth. A negative or declining net worth means your debts exceed your assets. Track quarterly to see the trend.
