Ratio

A comparison of two quantities showing how many times one contains the other.

A ratio of 3:1 means three of one thing for every one of another. Ratios are used in cooking (2:1 flour to sugar), finance (debt-to-income ratio), construction (concrete mix 1:2:3 cement:sand:gravel), and fitness (macro ratios like 40:30:30 carbs:protein:fat). Simplifying ratios works like simplifying fractions — 6:4 simplifies to 3:2 by dividing both by 2.
