What Is Your Blood Alcohol Level?
Estimate your BAC based on drinks consumed, body weight, and time. See when you will be under the legal limit.
How BAC Is Calculated
Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is estimated using the Widmark formula: BAC = (drinks × 0.6 oz alcohol × 5.14) ÷ (body weight × gender constant) − (0.015 × hours). The gender constant reflects body water content: 0.68 for males, 0.55 for females. Your body metabolizes alcohol at approximately 0.015 g/dL per hour — equivalent to about one standard drink per hour.
What BAC Levels Mean
0.02-0.03: Slight relaxation, mild mood elevation. 0.05-0.06: Lowered inhibitions, impaired judgment. 0.08: Legal limit in all 50 states — reaction time, coordination, and judgment are significantly impaired. 0.10-0.15: Clear impairment of motor control, slurred speech. 0.20+: Confusion, disorientation. 0.30+: Medical emergency risk.
Important Limitations
This calculator provides an estimate only. Actual BAC is affected by food intake, medications, liver function, hydration, fatigue, and individual metabolism. Never rely on a calculator to determine if you are safe to drive. When in doubt, do not drive. Use a rideshare or designated driver.
Nothing speeds up alcohol metabolism. Coffee makes you a wide-awake drunk, not a sober one. The only cure for alcohol impairment is time — your liver processes approximately one standard drink per hour regardless of what you eat or drink.
