Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR)

A measurement comparing waist circumference to hip circumference, used to assess health risk.

WHR is calculated by dividing waist circumference by hip circumference. A healthy WHR is below 0.90 for men and below 0.85 for women. Higher ratios indicate more abdominal fat, which is associated with increased risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. WHR is considered a better predictor of cardiovascular risk than BMI because it specifically measures dangerous visceral fat distribution rather than overall weight.
