What is BMR?

Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest — just to keep organs functioning. It accounts for 60–75% of your total daily calorie expenditure.

The Mifflin-St Jeor formula

Male: BMR = 10×kg + 6.25×cm − 5×age + 5 Female: BMR = 10×kg + 6.25×cm − 5×age − 161

How to use your BMR

Multiply BMR by your activity factor to get TDEE. Eat below TDEE to lose weight, above to gain. BMR itself is your absolute floor — never eat below it without medical supervision.
