Scale Cocktail Recipes for Any Party Size
Scale cocktail recipes from single serving to pitcher or punch bowl. Precise measurements for batching.
Batching Cocktails
Batch cocktails save time at parties — pre-mix everything except carbonated ingredients and ice. For fizzy cocktails (Moscow Mule, G&T, Paloma), mix the spirit and citrus in advance, then add soda/ginger beer when serving. For non-fizzy cocktails (Margarita, Old Fashioned), everything can be pre-mixed hours ahead.
The Golden Ratio
Most classic cocktails follow the 2:1:1 ratio — 2 parts spirit, 1 part sweet, 1 part sour. Margarita: 2 tequila, 1 triple sec, 1 lime. Whiskey Sour: 2 whiskey, 1 simple syrup, 1 lemon. Once you know this ratio, you can scale any cocktail and create your own variations.
The single biggest mistake in batch cocktails: not accounting for dilution. A single cocktail gets 15-25% water from shaking/stirring with ice. When batching, add 15-20% water to the pre-mix to replicate this dilution. Without it, batch cocktails taste too strong and unbalanced.
